Any statutory holiday that falls on Saturday or Sunday is observed on the following Monday;

Labour Day is observed on the first Monday in September; and

Thanksgiving Day is observed on the second Monday in October.

Minimum Wage

Rate of the province in which work is performed

Hours of Work

maximum 8 hours daily

maximum 40 hours weekly

Overtime Pay

1.5 times of regular pay for each of work over eight hours a day or 40 hours per week

Vacation Entitlement

Two weeks of vacation for every completed year of employment.

After 5 consecutive years of employment, vacation time increases to 3 weeks.

After 10 completed years, employees are entitled to 4 weeks of vacation.

Vacation Pay

4% of gross earnings where the vacation entitlement is 2 weeks.

6% of gross earnings where the vacation entitlement is 3 weeks.

8% of gross earnings where the vacation entitlement is 4 weeks

Maternity Leave

17 weeks or longer of unpaid time off work

Parental Leave

Natural and adoptive parents can take up to 63 weeks of unpaid time off work under the same

      conditions as those for maternity leave

Parents may share parental leave and can  have additional 8 weeks

Compassionate Care

Leave is unpaid. It is a job-protected leave of up to 28 weeks in a 52-week period

Bereavement

Allowed up to 3 days a year

Termination Notice

Less than three weeks – nil

More than three weeks – two week notice or two weeks of pay
